Vanquish Tech Announces Charity Partnership with Spinal Injuries Association, a Charity Close to our Hearts

Vanquish Tech announced its new charity partner from 2019 and onwards, which will be Spinal Injuries Association. Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) is the leading national user-led charity for spinal cord injured (SCI) people, with the objective of supporting anyone who has been touched by spinal cord injury. SIA works to enable people to live a fulfilled life after injury.

Vanquish Tech’s charity partnership is part of the company’s commitment to making a positive contribution to society and the communities we operate in. We will work with SIA to raise both vital funds and awareness for SIA from 2019 and onwards. Our commitment to SIA is to provide technology support to the charity and their members in the form of advice, hardware and software procurement.

As the Official Technology Partner of West Ham United FC Men and Women, and with our close connection to the sporting world, we invite SIA to be part of our ongoing activities and projects with the two clubs.

We kicked off our support with a five-a-side football tournament and charity dinner, hosted in conjunction with the West Ham Foundation, and with a dinner that took place in the London Stadium itself. West Ham United’s first team players, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Cresswell and Robert Snodgrass were on hand to offer advice during the day. West Ham legends Marlon Harewood, Jack Collison and Carlton Cole made up the numbers in the football tournament – showing that they still have a goal or two in them!

As well as providing SIA a well-deserved place on pitch-side hoardings and on the player’s shirts, Vanquish Tech also invites SIA’s very own famous face – Peer Support Officer for London Lady-Marie Dawson-Malcolm- who gave an amazing speech at the evening reception to over 200 guests and received a standing ovation! On top of that, the night also featured a charity auction, which netted an incredible £2,661 for SIA.

The partnership with SIA is dear to our hearts and has been a long time in the making, and stems from a family connection with SIA. Simeon Taylor, CEO of Vanquish Technologies, is very much aware of the impact SIA’s support has had on his mother’s life following her injury in 1969. Because of this connection, Simeon (and his entire team), is whole-heartedly committed to supporting SIA and hopes that with our support, we can go from strength to strength: “ I am really excited that Vanquish can support such an important charity and one that is really close to my heart. My mother, Donna, sustained an SCI when she was 14, so SIA has been a massive part of my family’s life for as long as I can remember.”

As well as being the first mother to deliver a baby (Simeon’s older brother) at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) in Stoke Mandeville, Donna also contributed to SIA by volunteering at the NSIC for almost ten years. She provided the same support and advice to SCI people that they continue to deliver today through the Peer Support Officers and volunteers, which Simeon knows can make a life-changing difference.

“The support and first-hand advice that SIA gave to my mother then – and still does – is invaluable and I know it has enabled her to live a full and productive life as it has done for so many others. Selecting SIA as our Charity Partner is the best way, I know of saying thank you. Our mission and commitment to SIA is both across raising vital funds that will contribute towards the amazing work the entire team provides to their Spinal cord members and as a technology company, ways we can introduce and enable new and existing technologies to SCI people that will impact their day to day life, to make it that much easier, even if only a little.

My team and I look forward to supporting SIA across the board, whether that be throwing ourselves out of planes, raising awareness, volunteering or through our expertise and association with emerging technology and sport – we will do everything we can to help!”.

Nik Hartley, CEO of SIA, said:

“Having worked with many charity partners over the years, I can honestly say that there are not many that have shown as much passion, dedication or eagerness as Vanquish Technologies have so far, and it is fantastic to know how keen they are to support SIA – simply because they want to do everything they can to help us make a difference!

Knowing that spinal cord injury is something that their staff hold close to their hearts is invaluable to us, and everything they have done so far to support SIA has shown how far they are willing to go to make sure that together we can try and help everyone affected by spinal cord injury.

As well as raising funds for us through their charity dinner, and inviting us to some amazing events, we are also so grateful that because of Vanquish Tech, SIA’s Logo was up in lights at the London Stadium in front of 26,000 football fans – which is something we would never have achieved without them.

“Everyone at SIA feels very proud and privileged that our relationship with Vanquish Tech is not just a charity of the year scheme - but a long-term partnership - which will help us to achieve amazing things together. We look forward to working with Vanquish Tech long into the future, and we are so thankful that we can call them partners (and teammates)!”.
